Klondike Derby Webelos - January 24th

Klondike Derby, Walpole Sportsman’s Association, January 24, 2009

Klondike ~ A test of Scout skills and endurance. Boy Scouts compete against Boy Scouts and Webelos Scouts against Webelos Scouts for ribbons and glory. Each patrol or Webelos den forms into a “Stampeder Dog Sled Team” and competes as a separate expedition.

Boy Scouts best a cold winter night’s sleep out. Webelos I/II Do Not Sleep Out.

What to bring

  • Directions to Walpole Sportsmen Club
  • Clothing

    * Winter boots are required for this event. Sneakers will not be permitted!!!! Any Scout wearing sneakers will not be allowed to take part in the Klondike.

    * Wool, synthetic, or other socks designed for winter. No cotton socks. Cotton gets wet and stays wet and can ruin a Scout’s day. Sock liners are suggested as well.

    * Winter coats, rain gear, long underwear (unless really warm), layers. Proper winter clothing is required. Avoid jeans and cotton sweats.

    * Winter hats and gloves. Hand and foot warmers.

    Food & Drink
    (Everyone brings their own)

    * Cup O’ Soup (or similar). Hot water supplied by Klondike.

    * Lunch – Troop 100 will supply lunch. If your child is picky you may want to have them bring
    their own lunch - (ideally sandwich +fruit and/or snack +drink)

    * Insulated hot cup and spoon

    * Hot drink mix – Hot Chocolate or other beverage

    * Snack – something simple and quick

    * 1 qt Water
    * Scout Handbook
    * Hot Sparks
    * Blanket or Sleeping Bag
    * 10 ‘ 3/8” Rope
    * Patrol First Aid Kit
    * Trash Bag
    * 1 pr wool socks
    * Hand & Foot Warmers
    * Steel Wool 0000
    * Patrol Flag
    * Blanket or Sleeping Bag
    * Patroll Yell
